Did you know QR codes were invented in 1994? It’s true… Denso Wave is a Japanese company… a subsidiary of Toyota… and they needed a more accurate way of tracking vehicles and parts during the manufacturing process. The system used a sort of bar code… of course we’re all now familiar with those bar codes… but it allowed managers in the stock room and on the assembly floor to see exactly where their inventory was going.
We’ve had this technology for more than 25 years and yet it took a pandemic to drive the kind of widespread adoption we now have. On today’s episode I want to talk about how restaurants are using QR codes today… how we might be able to use them in the future… and finally I want to introduce you to a sister technology called NFC, that I believe will change our world in the next 24 months.
